Opposite is a picture of the famous medievel Ponte Vecchio (or Old Bridge) over the river Arno in Florence. It is probably the second most famous structure in Florence, with the shops built along it, as was once common on bridges of the period. Butchers, tanners, and farmers were first to occupy the shops, these days it has jewellers, art dealers, and souvenir sellers to service the many tourists Florence attracts.
It contains part of the now famous Medici family secret passageway from their home to their offices, and is the only bridge not destroyed by the Germans in WWII.
